Fexwear is a custom embroidered hoodies manufacturer producing OEM and ODM hoodies for brands, car clubs, teams, corporate buyers and retailers in 30 countries. Founded in 2010, we run our own in-house knitting, cut-and-sew, embroidery and quality-control lines, and we take a hoodie programme from a rough sketch or a finished tech pack all the way through to labelled, packed cartons — with minimum order quantities starting at 10 pieces.

An embroidered hoodie is a garment where the decoration is the product. There is no artwork to change and no colourway to approve separately from the garment: the hoodie and the embroidery are one design decision, and the customer is judging the stitching as much as the cloth. That means the two things buyers most often get wrong are the fabric weight — a light hoodie cannot carry a dense chest embroidery without puckering — and the stitch count, because stitch count is what they are actually paying for.

This guide covers the four hoodie styles we run most, the fabric weights that hold embroidery properly, how embroidery is specified and priced, decoration alternatives worth knowing about, sizing, minimum order quantities, and the questions buyers ask most.

Embroidered Hoodie Styles We Manufacture

Four core styles, all produced in-house with your design, colours and labels.

01Custom high-quality embroidered hoodies

Custom High-Quality Hoodies

Designed with precision, durability, and attention to detail, our hoodies offer both exceptional style and a premium appearance. The standard option for a brand range that needs to survive retail scrutiny.

02Custom car embroidered hoodie

Car Club Hoodies

Ideal for automotive events, car clubs, or merchandise collections, these hoodies combine style with a chest or back graphic dense enough to read across a car park. Our embroidery types guide covers the stitch densities involved.

03Custom embroidered hoodies for couples

Couples Hoodies

A perfect mix of comfort and personalization. Whether for anniversaries, special occasions, or a matching pair, the detail worth spending on here is the colour match between the two pieces.

04Custom embroidered zip-up hoodies

Zip-Up Hoodies

Perfect for sports teams, corporate branding, or everyday casual wear, these zip-up hoodies combine the embroidered look with a heavier, more structured construction that holds its shape better over time.

Hoodie Fabric Specifications: Weight, Composition and Hand

The fabric has to be heavy enough to carry the embroidery. This is the whole specification argument on this page: a 240 gsm hoodie will hold a chest logo, and a 180 gsm hoodie will pucker around it no matter how good the embroidery machine is. Buyers who reduce the fabric weight to save money usually spend it again on a reprint.

Core hoodie fabrics

STANDARD

French terry (80% Cotton / 20% Polyester)

280–320 gsmloopbackholds shape

The default for an embroidered hoodie, and what most customers expect when they buy one. Cotton-rich for comfort, polyester for recovery, and a loopback interior that holds its shape through repeated washing if the seams are properly finished. Our fabric selection guide covers how to spec terry without over-ordering on the wrong weight.

HEAVYWEIGHT

Loopback fleece and heavyweight cotton

320–420 gsmstructuredpremium drape

For a premium or boutique brand, a 350–400 gsm loopback gives the hoodie a weight that reads as expensive before anyone touches the embroidery. It also carries a dense chest design without distortion. This is the right choice if you are selling at a price point where the customer expects to feel the garment before they see the stitch.

LIGHTWEIGHT

Poly-rich fleece and soft blends

240–280 gsmsoft handlimited support

A 240 gsm fleece is fine for a small chest logo and wrong for a large back graphic. If you need a light hoodie for a summer range, specify the design size as well as the garment weight so we can tell you honestly whether the two are compatible.

STRUCTURE

Interlock and ribbed knits

280–320 gsmtight faceclean edge

Interlock is the right structure for a hoodie that will be printed as well as embroidered, because it lies flat and holds a crisp edge. Ribbed cuffs and a ribbed hem also help the garment keep its shape through washing, which is a detail customers notice on a hoodie more than on any other garment.

TEST 01Puckering under dense stitchThe test that matters most on this page. We embroider the intended design on the intended fabric and inspect it under tension. If the fabric cannot hold a dense chest design without puckering, we say so before production rather than after, because a puckered chest is a reprint.
TEST 02Shrinkage after washSample garments are washed and re-measured. Cotton-rich hoodies can shrink, and a hoodie that shrinks two centimetres in length stops matching the size it was sold as — and embroidery distorts with the fabric.

Embroidery Specifications

Embroidery is priced by stitch count, not by area. Two designs that occupy the same square centimetre can differ three-fold in price depending on how much detail is in them, so the conversation has to be about the artwork rather than the size.

What to send us

Our design support is there for exactly this: send a sketch, a photograph, or a raster file and we will tell you what is achievable in embroidery before you commit. The three things that decide whether a design will embroider cleanly are the smallest detail size, the number of colours, and whether there is fine detail in a small area. A 6 mm detail embroidered at high density will look like a smudge, and we would rather move it to a print than ship it.

Placement and options

  • Left chest — the classic position, and the smallest useful area. A 90–110 mm wide design is about the limit before the detail starts closing up.
  • Large back print — the highest stitch count on a hoodie and the most expensive, and the reason a back graphic needs a heavier fabric behind it.
  • Sleeve — works well for car clubs and teams, and adds a detail that makes a plain hoodie look considered.
  • Cuff and hem branding — small, and usually added to an existing design rather than specified alone.

Embroidery vs other decoration methods

Embroidery
Best for
Left-chest logos, crests, and anything where a premium raised finish is the point
Why
State-of-the-art embroidery creates intricate, vibrant, and durable designs that survive everything, and it reads as the most premium decoration on a hoodie
Limit
Priced by stitch count, so a dense back graphic is the most expensive decoration per unit. Our embroidery types guide breaks down the options
Screen printing
Best for
Large back graphics, wordmarks and solid-colour designs
Why
Substantially cheaper than embroidery at volume, and it can carry far more colour at no extra cost
Limit
Has hand-feel, and on a heavyweight hoodie a plastisol print can feel plasticky. Full comparison in our printing methods guide
Sublimation
Best for
All-over and photographic designs on a light poly-rich hoodie
Why
Vibrant, natural results with zero hand-feel and no risk of cracking
Limit
Not available on cotton-rich terry, and it is the only option here that cannot go on the hood itself
Puff & 3D embroidery
Best for
Sport and streetwear branding where a raised, dimensional logo is the goal
Why
Adds a height the flat methods cannot, and it is the most eye-catching option on a premium hoodie
Limit
Higher cost and a longer lead time, and the design has to be simplified further to hold the puff effect

Hoodie construction details

Beyond decoration, three details decide whether a hoodie holds up. Ribbed cuffs and hem recover, so the sleeve does not sag to the elbow after a month. A two-panel hood holds its shape better than a single panel and does not flatten when it is down. And flatlock or coverstitched seams sit flat rather than leaving a ridge, which matters on a garment people wear next to skin for hours. Our sewing stitch guide covers the options.

Sizing and Fit

A hoodie is the easiest garment to size badly, because it looks the same on every block and the difference only appears when a customer puts it on. The two decisions that matter are the fit and the body length.

Fit options

Streetwear

Oversized / boxy

Deliberate ease through the body and a dropped shoulder. The look most streetwear and car-club buyers want, and it hides a grading error better than a fitted cut.

Safest

Standard retail fit

Follows the body with a small ease allowance. The right choice for a corporate or team range where the size chart is all the buyer sees.

Premium

Fitted / tapered

Skims the body with a tapered leg. A premium look, and the least forgiving across a wide size range — expect a tighter tolerance.

Body length and sleeve length

Two measurements decide whether a hoodie looks right: the body length measured from the shoulder seam to the hem, and the sleeve length from the shoulder to the cuff. Both change with fit, and both are what a customer notices first. Specify them in the tech pack rather than saying “regular fit”, and we will build to the numbers. Our sizing and measurement blueprint covers what to send us, and the grading guide explains how the block is built.

Couples and matching sets

For a couples hoodie or any matching pair, the detail worth spending on is the colour match between the two pieces, not the embroidery. Two pieces of the same style in the same colourway must come from the same dye lot, and we verify that before cutting. If the two hoodies are different styles, check that the fabric weight matches too, because a 320 gsm and a 240 gsm in the same colour will not read as a pair.

Quality Control and Compliance

Quality control on an embroidered hoodie is mostly about the embroidery and the fabric behaving together. Both fail in ways a per-garment check misses, so we inspect them as a combination.

Inspection points

Embroidery & fabric checks

  • Dense design test — the intended design is embroidered on the intended fabric and inspected under tension, which is what catches a puckering chest before bulk.
  • Stitch quality audit — skipped stitches, thread breaks, loose ends and uneven density are all fail conditions.
  • Position consistency — a chest logo has to sit in the same place on every piece in the run, measured against the approved sample rather than by eye.
  • Backing check — where a design is dense, we confirm the backing is present and correct, because it is invisible until the garment is washed a dozen times.

Garment & packing

  • Dimensional stability — samples washed and re-measured, since embroidery distorts with the fabric when it shrinks.
  • Colour consistency — panels compared against the approved sample under daylight, which is what catches a shade drift between dye lots.
  • Retail-ready packing — folded to size, polybagged, size and care labelled, and barcoded with GTIN or UPC where the market requires it.

Minimum Order Quantity and Pricing

Minimum order quantities start at 10 pieces per style and colour, genuinely per design rather than per order, so you can develop a range at ten pieces each rather than ordering forty of one.

What actually drives unit price

Embroidery stitch countLargest single variable

Embroidery is priced per thousand stitches, so a small left-chest logo and a full back graphic can differ three-fold on the same hoodie. This is the number to optimise deliberately rather than by accident — a simplified back design is often the cheapest way to drop a hoodie quote by fifteen percent.

Fabric weightQuality and cost

A 400 gsm heavyweight loopback costs meaningfully more than a 240 gsm fleece, and it is also what allows a dense chest design to sit flat. Cheaper fabric plus a reprint is usually more expensive than heavier fabric.

ConstructionZip, hood, ribbing

A zip-up with a two-panel hood and a colour-matched zip costs more to build than a pullover with a printed neck. Both are legitimate; quote both if the buyer is comparing.

Size countPanel changes

A five-size run costs more per piece than a two-size run because setup time and panel changes both grow.

LabelsMinimal at volume

Custom size labels, sublimated logos, or woven sew labels add real cost at low volume; sublimated tags add almost nothing.

Volume tiers

The drop in unit price happens in steps, not smoothly, and the biggest step is usually at a few hundred pieces per style. The wholesale buyer guide covers how buyers structure these tiers and where the real breakpoints fall. Practical advice for embroidered hoodies specifically: get the artwork digitised and stitched on a fabric sample before the bulk order, because embroidery is the one decoration that cannot be adjusted late.

Order Timeline: Enquiry to Delivery

Working backwards from a launch date

Week 0 — enquiry & feasibility

We review your design and artwork, confirm the fabric weight against the density of the embroidery, and give a costed quote.

Week 1 — digitising & sample

Your design is digitised into embroidery files, and we produce a sample with the actual stitch on the actual fabric. Allow three to five days for a standard sample.

Week 2 — approval

Samples come back with your written approval. Embroidery cannot be adjusted after production starts without re-digitising, so this is the week to settle the design.

Weeks 3–6 — bulk production

Knitting, cutting, sewing, embroidery and finishing. Two to four weeks is typical for a moderate order; dense back graphics run longer because the machine time is the constraint.

Week 7 — inspection & shipping

AQL inspection including the embroidery audit, packing to your spec, and dispatch. Air freight is around a week; sea freight to Europe or the US runs three to five weeks.

Total 10–12 weeks

Plan on roughly ten to twelve weeks from enquiry to delivery. If your date is immovable, tell us in the first conversation — we would rather decline a rushed order than ship something that arrives without time for your own quality check.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your minimum order quantity?

Minimum order quantities start at 10 pieces per style and colour, genuinely per design rather than per order, so you can develop several styles at ten pieces each. Practical minimums rise once you add a full size run or several colourways. Sample cost is credited against your first bulk order.

Can you match our colours exactly?

Yes. We dye to your exact Pantone reference and check against a physical swatch under daylight viewing, because monitor colour is the most common source of disputes. Saturated shades can shift slightly between dye lots, so we recommend a lab dip for those.

What artwork file format do you need?

Vector files — AI, EPS or PDF — give the best results. For sublimation all-over prints, a high-resolution raster file at 300 dpi at final size is acceptable. We can work from a rough sketch if you are early in the process.

Can you ship to our country?

We ship to 30 countries and can arrange both air and sea freight. We produce retail-ready packing and barcodes where your market requires them, so tell us your destination in the first enquiry.
